Port Kembla

The original Outer Harbour was formed with the construction of the two large breakwaters in the early 1900s, and was primarily used to export coal and other bulk products.

The Inner Harbour was constructed during the 1950s to service expansion of Australia’s major steel plant and allow for the long term expansion of other local industries of coal and grain. This focus on continual expansion carried on in more recent times with the construction of the car import terminal completed in 2007.
