Revitalisation of Eden harbour set to cruise forward
Port Authority of New South Wales has announced a new program to coordinate the delivery of three major projects planned for the Port of Eden: the Eden Welcome Centre, the Safe Harbour Project and the Eden Harbourside Activation Project.
The Revitalising Eden Harbour Program will be led by Port Authority and supported by Transport for NSW (Safe Harbour Project) and the Department of Planning Industry and Environment (Eden Harbourside Activation Project).
“Bringing these projects together will help Port of Eden develop critical infrastructure that will benefit the community, visitors and local economy,” said Philip Holliday, Chief Executive Officer and Director, Port Authority of New South Wales.
“Coordinating these projects will ensure they develop in a whole-of-port approach; complimenting each other and recent developments such as the Eden Cruise Wharf and supporting the port’s future.
“The program is designed to enable the expansion of working port activity, tourism, customer experience and private sector investment that will support jobs growth and economic development in the region.”
As Eden becomes an increasingly popular cruise destination, the Eden Welcome Centre will be a new facility to greet up to 100,000 visiting cruise passengers each year. The centre will provide visitors with amenities, local information and access to Cruise Eden’s welcome ambassadors, and is anticipated to open for the 2020/21 cruise season.

Plans and designs for the Eden Welcome Centre will be shared with the community across two information sessions:

The Eden Safe Harbour project, which aims to provide a safer harbour for local and visiting vessels in Snug Cove, undertook site investigations in 2018 and further concept development this year.
Mr Holliday said, “Finding the best solution for a safer harbour will enhance Eden’s reputation as a safe boating destination and create the best possible opportunity for sustainable growth and future investment in the port.”
The Harbourside Activation Project will explore options for the redevelopment of the Discovery Centre building site. The modification of this mixed-use zoned site has the potential to provide retail activation, commercial use, residential accommodation and recreational marine activities in support of the local economy.
More information on the Revitalising Eden Harbour Program and delivery timelines will be released as the program progresses.
