Marine safety licences such as Certificate of Local Knowledge and Pilotage Exemption Certificates may be issued by Port Authority for use in vessels subject to pilotage. The criteria for the issue of a marine safety licence are based on industry codes, the nature of the port and best practice in assessment and training.
Licence assessment is made through a combination of observation, experience, written tasks and practical assessment. Ongoing experience and revalidation criteria apply to maintain the issued licence.
