Pilot ladders present a significant risk to those that use them to board ships. There are instances where people other than Port Authority Marine Pilots may have a need to board or disembark a ship at sea. To provide a level of confidence that person/s can do this safely, they are required to complete a Pilot ladder competency assessment.
Only persons who have completed the Port Authority Pilot ladder training will be permitted to board or disembark a ship via pilot ladder at sea using Port Authority transport.
The assessment involves successful completion of both online prework and a practical assessment involving a 9m Pilot ladder. The assessor will be a designated Port Authority representative. The accreditation is valid for a period of 2 years.
Booking confirmation is at the complete discretion of Port Authority and can be cancelled at any time. Non-Port Authority personnel will also be required to sign a visitor risk warning prior to the practical assessment.
Fees
Each non-Port Authority applicant will be required to pay $290 (inclusive of GST)
