Berths & Channels

The Port operates a general cargo berth at Goodwood Island, known as Goodwood Island Wharf. The wharf is 70m long and is a concrete decked, concrete piled wharf with timber and rubber fenders.
The site facility consists of:
- a paved and fully fenced area of approximately 5,000m2
- undercover and lockable storage capacity to 600m2
- a CCTV security monitoring system
- an amenities block with offices, mess room, toilets, showers and change rooms.
Vessels up to 120m in length can be secured safely at the berth with a depth alongside of 6m or as updated by Notice to Mariners. Ship's cargo gear is normally employed, although mobile cranes up to 50 tonnes capacity are available at reasonable notice.
The wharf services available to a vessel consist of:
- potable water at 30tph
- power 240V, 50 Hz, single phase at the wharf face and
- an International Shore Connection.
The maximum concentrated load is eight tonnes and permissible deck load is 2600 kg/sg m.
The port facility is accessible by road, approximately 10k from the Pacific Highway, the main arterial link between Sydney and Brisbane. The Wharf is located along Wharf Street, off Iluka Road.
Entities requiring the use of Goodwood Island Wharf and site must hold a current ‘Conditions of Use and Occupation’ agreement with Port Authority of New South Wales. Where this is not held the company is to engage and Agent that holds an agreement and confirm this with the Port before a booking will be accepted.
Harwood Marine is a full service shipbuilding, ship repair, marine design and engineering business, specialising in Steel and Aluminium fabrication. The head office is located on the North Coast of NSW on the Clarence River, 270km south of Brisbane.
The facility consists of:
- a 45m wharf (Harwood Slipway wharf)
- an 80m lay-by site (fender piles)
- 4000 Ton slipway
- a 40m wharf (Palmers Island wharf)
- 25T Bollard Pull tug
- 6m Workboat
The sugar mill operated by Sunshine Sugar has an ex loading wharf and a wharf landing in Harwood Reach. Neither berth is currently used. Enquiries should be directed to Sunshine Sugar – Harwood Island regarding use of the wharves. No vessel is to berth at these sites without approval from Sunshine Sugar and Port Authority.
A five tonne bollard pull tug is available for use in the port and as required by the assigned pilot.
Grades of light fuels and lubricants are available by road transport with arrangements being made through a Ship's Agent.
Good quality potable water is available in unlimited quantities at 30 tonnes per hour.
Good quality food stores and ship's consumables can be obtained locally through a Ship's Agent.
Quarantine food waste cannot be landed at the port.
Cargo and hold fumigation is available with arrangements being made through a Ship's Agent.
The closest commercial air services are available at Ballina or Grafton with services to Sydney. Both airports are about one hour drive via the Pacific Highway. Alternative services are available at Coffs Harbour and Gold Coast airports, including international services.
Passenger rail services are available at Grafton.
