DCN Awards 2025

This year, Port Authority advanced several key environmental milestones, including achieving Silver in the NSW Sustainability Advantage Program and becoming the first Australian port to be certified by the international Green Marine program.

In January 2024, Port Authority also reached a major net-zero milestone by reducing its Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions to zero through renewable energy purchased under a Power Purchase Agreement.

Port Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, John Mckenna said:

“Being recognised among Australia’s leading environmental performers reflects the disciplined work our teams are delivering across the state. From emissions reduction to environmental certification, we remain focused on generating long-term environmental value for our customers, communities and the maritime sector.

“This acknowledgment reinforces our commitment to responsible, resilient and future-ready port operations across New South Wales.”

Michael Kelly, Marine Pilot at Port Botany, also won the Seafarers Welfare Award, recognised for his outstanding commitment to the safety, wellbeing and support of visiting seafarers.

John McKenna said Michael is a highly respected marine pilot whose care for visiting seafarers is well known across Port Authority and the industry.

“Michael’s care for seafarers goes well beyond the duties of a pilot. He brings compassion, professionalism and a genuine sense of responsibility to every interaction, and his support makes a real difference to people who spend months away from home.

“This recognition is a reflection of his character and the respect he has earned right across our ports.”

The Australian Shipping and Maritime Industry Awards is an annual national event run by the leading maritime magazine, the DCN (Daily Cargo News).

Port Authority is proud to have sponsored the Diversity and Inclusion Award at this year’s event, reflecting its commitment to a safe, respectful, and inclusive maritime industry that celebrates diversity across all workplaces and communities.
