One week after celebrating 20 years of cruise, Eden will welcome its 200th cruise ship, marking another major milestone in the Sapphire Coast’s rise as one of Australia’s most successful regional cruise destinations.
The milestone vessel, Celebrity Edge, will arrive at 9:00am carrying over 4,000 passengers and crew, who will spend the next nine hours enjoying oyster tasting, kayaking, a photography tour, and exploring the local town and region.
Port Authority of NSW Chief Executive Officer John McKenna said the arrival of the 200th cruise ship is another significant cruise achievement for Eden and the wider Sapphire Coast.
“Cruise tourism has become part of Eden’s identity. The wharf, Welcome Centre, Cruise Eden volunteers, the markets and community hospitality – it’s all part of the unique experience cruisers have on arriving in this beautiful region.
“Today’s arrival also highlights how Port Authority’s targeted investment in port infrastructure has made it possible for larger vessels like Celebrity Edge to dock here.”
Mr McKenna said the region’s success capitalising on cruise could not have been achieved without the strong collaboration and continued support of Bega Valley Shire Council and Cruise Eden, who have worked tirelessly to make every visitor’s experience memorable.
“The partnership approach Eden has fostered has transformed the port into a true gateway to the region’s natural beauty, maritime heritage and local businesses.”
Since the first ship arrived in 2005, the Port of Eden has hosted more than 400,000 passengers and crew, with cruise tourism injecting tens of millions of dollars into the local economy and creating jobs across the region.
As the gateway to Ben Boyd National Park, Twofold Bay and the region’s historic whaling and fishing industries, Eden has become a standout stop on Australian cruise itineraries.
