Connecting women in maritime

A new event held by Port Authority of New South Wales gives a voice to women making their careers in the maritime industry.

The first ever Connecting Women in Maritime networking event took place in Sydney this November to a rapturous reception.

Around 75 people turned up at Port Authority’s Bond One head office to meet and hear from women from across the maritime industry about their career paths, milestones and aspirations.

Connecting Women in Maritime was organised by Port Authority and the Nautical Institute to assist women already in the industry and those wanting to pursue a maritime career. The event also provides a forum to discuss the obstacles that have faced women in the industry and to find ways of attracting women to maritime roles.

Guests got to hear stories from a number of people from the maritime industry including Jillian Carson-Jackson, Vice President, Nautical Institute; Philip Holliday, Sydney Harbour Master, Port Authority; Megan Arnott, Marine Advisor, Caltex; Mel Perrottet, Tug Engineer, Svitzer; and Adrienne Cahalan, professional sailor and maritime lawyer.
