Three maiden cruise ship calls for NSW

New South Wales welcomes three new cruise ships to its shores in one week as they made maiden calls to Sydney and Batemans Bay

On Wednesday 12 December, the 200m-long German-owned cruise ship AIDAaura made its first visit to Sydney while, further down the coast on the same day, the luxury cruise ship Seabourn Sojourn made its debut visit to Batemans Bay.

The Seabourn Sojourn brought around 450 passengers to Batemans Bay, with all aboard being taken from ship to shore in a procession of small boats.

The visit— the first date of a 36-night itinerary around Australia and Indonesia —  is another boost to cruise in regional NSW, following the recent visit of the luxury cruise ship MS Caledonian Sky to Trial Bay, South West Rocks.

Just a few days later on Sunday 16 December, Sydney welcomed another ship making its maiden call to the city — this time the Viking Orion: Viking Cruises fifth ship which was christened just months earlier in June 2018.

As is tradition, each ship was welcomed in with a ceremonial exchange of plaques between the captains and representative from Port Authority of New South Wales.
