Nobbys Headland reopens to the public
Nobbys Headland, one of Newcastle’s most iconic sites, has reopened its gates to the public.
Owned and managed by Port Authority of New South Wales, Newcastle's heritage-listed Nobbys Headland is now open to the public from 8am to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as on cruise ship days.
In the summer months when daylight saving is in operation, opening hours will be extended to 7am to 7pm.
Access to the famous site had been suspended pending the determination of the site’s future use following the end of a licence with Newcastle Now in January 2019.
Following the reopening in July, Port Authority will engage with local stakeholders and community members to hear their views and discuss the medium- to long-term use of Nobbys Headland.
Port Authority will release an Expression of Interest (EOI) for long-term public use of Nobbys Headland later this year.
As well as being one of Newcastle’s most beloved locations, Nobbys Headland remains a key piece of operational infrastructure for the safe movement of ships through Newcastle Harbour, with an active signal station and a lighthouse owned and operated by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
