National Indigenous NAIDOC Art Fair comes to Sydney’s OPT

This June Port Authority of NSW will host the National Indigenous NAIDOC Art Fair at Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal

The National Indigenous NAIDOC Art Fair is a vibrant festival of Australia’s rich Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and it returns to Sydney on 30 June–1 July 2018 — this year at Sydney’s famous Overseas Passenger Terminal.

The Art Fair celebrates the works of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists from remote Australian arts centres. The artists will bring their artworks, sculptures, textiles and accessories to Sydney to exhibit and sell at the market and host workshops demonstrating their amazing arts and cultural practices.

This year’s event is set to build on the inaugural Art Fair in 2017, which hosted 11 national remote art centres, 40 local Aboriginal stallholders and provided entertainment through five Aboriginal performance groups.

Over 10,000 people came to last year’s one-day event art fair. Now held over the whole weekend, the 2018 art fair will give thousands more the opportunity to experience Aboriginal art and culture.

The event is supported by the NSW Government via its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, in proud partnership with the Port Authority of New South Wales.

The National Indigenous NAIDOC Art Fair is the first event ahead of NAIDOC Week 2018. The week-long event will be held from 8–15 July and celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and recognises the contributions Indigenous Australians make to our country and society.

The Overseas Passenger Terminal is one of Sydney’s most unique venues and is owned and operated by Port Authority of NSW.
