New port Sustainability Plan wins Good Design Award
A new plan by Port Authority of New South Wales to embed sustainability across its ports takes a win at Australia’s international Good Design Awards.
Port Authority of New South Wales has received a prestigious Good Design Award Winner Accolade for the design and development of a new plan that will embed sustainability across its six port locations.
Created in collaboration with employees, Port Authority’s Sustainability Plan sets out a framework for identifying and developing sustainable opportunities, initiatives and outcomes across four key focus areas: it’s people, operations, environment and communities.

Winning in the Good Design Awards’ design strategy category, the plan was recognised for outstanding design and innovation, with the awards jury commenting:
“A brilliant example of design-led strategic innovation that is well framed and executed. A very challenging project overall that brings together many complex systems and stakeholders all incorporated into a coherent, strategic and implementable plan.”
Port Authority will launch its Sustainability Plan shortly and follows the recent launch of its Vision and Strategic Plan 2020–25.
The annual Good Design Awards is Australia’s oldest and most prestigious international awards for design and innovation. This year, more than 55 jurors evaluated a record 835 design projects according to a strict set of design criteria.
Dr. Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia said: “Receiving a Good Design Award is a significant achievement given the very high calibre and record number of entries received in 2020.
“Australia’s Good Design Award is more than a symbol of design excellence - it represents the hard work and dedication towards an innovative outcome that will ultimately make our lives better. These projects showcase the sheer brilliance of design and the potential it has to improve our world.”
