Nestled on the far south coast of NSW, the Port of Eden is a hidden gem for visitors arriving by sea. As the southernmost deep-water harbour in the state, Eden is home to one of NSW’s largest fishing fleets and is a tourism gateway to explore the far south coast’s spectacular scenery, rich maritime history, and vibrant atmosphere. Here’s your guide to exploring Eden and the Sapphire Coast.

A warm welcome at the Eden Welcome Centre

The first port of call when arriving to shore, the Eden Welcome Centre is a hub of local knowledge. Built on the old fisherman’s co-op site, the centre is home to the Eden Visitor Information Centre where visitors can find tour information and get the local’s insider tips on the best things to see and do in the region. On cruise days, the Eden Cruise Ship Markets take over the space giving visitors the opportunity to pick up a delightful treasure to take home or sample a delicious local treat.

Eden’s maritime heritage

Eden’s coastal ties are thousands of years old, stemming from Tharwa people of the Yuin Nation and their history of whaling, through to the cruise industry that plays such a vital role today. Today, Eden’s whaling history is on display at the Eden Killer Whale Museum and along the Killer Whale Trail, a scenic self-drive day tour past five historical sites taking in the spectacular surrounds of Eden. Now, Eden remains a vital hub for fishing, shipping, and cruise tourism.

Beyond the Port

Beyond Eden, the Sapphire Coast has lots to offer the curious traveller. Explore the rugged coastal parklands of Beowa National Park, where scenic walking trails lead to the iconic Boyd’s Tower. Discover charming coastal towns like Pambula, known for its oyster farms, and Merimbula for its pristine beaches.

Take a scenic drive through the rolling green hills to Bega, approximately an hour’s drive from Eden. The heartland of Australia’s dairy country, the Bega Cheese Heritage Centre is well worth a visit.

From September to November, Eden is one of Australia's top whale-watching destinations, with cruises into Twofold Bay offering front-row seats to witness the spectacular humpback whale migration.

Welcome to Eden – the jewel of the Sapphire Coast!
