The Sydney Opera House sails will be illuminated red to celebrate the 2026 Lunar New Year on 12 February. The projections are best viewed from the Overseas Passenger Terminal.

Lunar New Year is a festival celebrated by communities from China, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, and Vietnam.

In New South Wales, Lunar New Year is embraced with many events taking place across the State. The festival celebrates the first new moon of a lunar calendar or lunisolar calendar year, whose months are moon cycles.

Lunar New Year is one of the most joyful and unifying celebrations in the cultural calendar.
